Resolution No. 2007-05 - Passed by Consensus Let the Leaders of the Porcupine Caribou Herd Pass Whereas; The hunting of caribou is an essential way of life for Gwich'in people; Whereas; The continued health of the Porcupine Caribou Herd is deemed important to the way of life of Gwich'in people; Whereas; Hunters from the Old Crow area have traditionally let the leaders of the caribou pass during the hunt so as to minimally impact the migration of the herd. Therefore Be It Resolved; That the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Natural Resources department and the North Yukon Renewable Resources Council develop guidelines for local hunting practices to ensure leaders of the caribou are able to pass and continue to lead the migration.
