Resolution No. 2016-006 - Passed by Consensus Settlement Land Set Aside on East End Airstrip Whereas; The land set a side was given to the Vuntut Gwitchin Government in 1956. Later the Yukon Government and Canada built part of the airstrip on the land set aside, taking away land from the Vuntut Gwitchin citizens. Whereas; Land set aside for the development of building housing on lots have been slowly depleting in recent years, resulting in limited space for future development. Whereas; There is a concern in the community regarding the dangers of having the airstrip run thorugh the middle of the community, leaving the community vulnerable to the possibility of a diaster related to aircraft crashes or explosions. Therefore Be It Resolved; The Vuntut Gwitchin Government Chief and Council meet with the Yukon Government and Federal Government to discuss and negotiate the land set aside on the airstrip to be reclaimed and compensated for the usage by Yukon Government over the years.
