Resolution No. 2018-16 - Passed by Consensus YTG Park employment 2018 Whereas; The Vuntut Gwitchin Government is near competition of a network of protected areas within our traditional territory that derive from the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Final Agreement and the North Yukon Land Use Plan; Whereas; Vuntut National Park totals 4345 Km2, the Fishing Branch Territorial Park & Habitat Protection Area (Ni'iinliiNjik) totals 6500 Km2, the Fishing Branch Ecological Reserve & Settlement Land R-5A & S-3A1 is 169.1 Km2 and 138.4 Km2, the Old Crow Flats Special Management Area is 19,000 Km2, the Whitefish Wetlands Habitat Protection Area; Whereas; (Ch'ihilii Chik) is 468 Km2 and the Bell River Summit Lake Territorial Park (Daadzaii Van) is 1525 Km2; Whereas; All the protected areas and accompanying co- management plans were created to be "for all time" Whereas; The Vuntut Gwitchin Government wishes to partner with the territorial government to create gainful and meaningful employment for its citizens in the stewardship of the large parks, habitat protection areas and special management areas we have created within our traditional territory: Therefore Be It Resolved; 1. The Vuntut Gwitchin Chief & Council direct this priority initiative and seek to negotiate with the Yukon territorial government, in the spirit of reconciliation and fairness, to establish hiring procedures, training, job shadowing and policies with the objective of 2 permanent full time indeterminate positions be filled within the Yukon Government public service and within the Department of Environment with qualified Vuntut Gwitchin citizens to assist in the management and administration of the protected areas in Vuntut Gwitchin Traditional Territory. 2. These positions be filled as soon as practicable and where appropriate, criteria for knowledge of Vuntut Gwitchin language, culture and traditional knowledge of the Vuntut Gwitchin Traditional Territory when establishing specifications for public service employment.
