Resolution No. 2019-17 - Passed Majority

Re-joining Council of Yukon First Nations

Whereas;  The Constitution of the Council of Yukon First Nations (the "Constitution") provides that any 
		First Nation, which has Aboriginal or treaty rights, titles and interests within the boundaries of 
		the Yukon Territory, may become an associate member ("Associate Member") upon acceptance 
		by the Leadership; and;

Whereas;  An Associate Member would have the right under the Constitution to participate in the 
		discussions of the meetings of the Leadership and the General Assembly with respect to matters
		that affect its Aboriginal or treaty rights, titles and interests in the Yukon Territory, but it
		would be a non-voting participant of those meetings and not form part of any quorum 
		requirements of the Council of Yukon First Nations; and ;

Whereas;  The Gwich'in have Aboriginal and treaty rights, titles and interests within the Yukon Territory, 
		including settlement land, and the Designated Gwich'in Organizations were initially accepted
		as members in the past.


Therefore Be It Resolved;

That Leadership of the Vuntut Gwitchin Government seek Associate Membership of the Council of 
Yukon First Nations pursuant to Article 6(c )  of the Consitution and be entitled to participate in the
proceedings of the Council of Yukon First Nations in accordance with the Constitution; and 

That VGG engage and participate with the Council of Yukon First Nations on matters and issues 
that face the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation.
