Executive Office
On October 19, 2006 the Vuntut Gwitchin Governance Act was passed into Legislation.

The Act established that on the recommendation of the Chief, the Council by resolution, appoints the Executive Director. The Executive Director is the senior administrative officer of the government and reports to the Chief. Subject to the direction of the Chief and the directives of the Management Committee, the Executive Director directs all the affairs of the government other than the financial affairs assigned to the Director of Finance.

The Executive Director is responsible for leading, planning, managing and implementing Vuntut Gwitchin Government programs, services and policies (other than financial affairs assigned to the Director of Finance) in accordance with the Governance Act, Resolutions and Strategic Plans. The Executive Director is responsible for supervising all departmental Directors, except the Finance Director, and is a member of the Management Committee.

Management Committee
On September 23, 2006 the Constitution of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation was amended to establish the Management Committee.

It states the Management Committee consists of the Chief, one other member of Council and at least two of the most senior employees of the Vuntut Gwitchin Government appointed by resolution of the Council.

The Management Committee performs the following functions:
  (a) forecast the financial needs and affairs of the government;
  (b) prepare in advance an annual budget for the government based on those forecasts;
  (c) present the budget to Council for approval or rejection prior to the beginning of the fiscal
      year for which the budget has been prepared;
  (d) ensure that government's expenditures and other financial transactions remain within the
      budget approved by Council.

Currently, the Chief, Deputy Chief, Executive Director and the Director of Finance are appointed to the Management Committee.

The Vuntut Gwitchin Governance Act outlines the directives the Management Committee may issue in various areas, as well as, directives applicable to public officers concerning:
  (a) the management of public money, property and investments;
  (b) the organization and management of the public service of the First Nation, including the
      classification of positions, the establishment of a job evaluation system, the certification of
      employees and applicants for positions, the review of rates of pay and allowances, the
      selection of applicants, and the discipline of employees; and
  (c) the disposition or lending of public property.
