Resolution No. 2008-01 - Passed by Consensus
Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation membership in the Council of Yukon First Nation
Whereas; The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation continues to move forward in accomplishing
our long term vision of self governance in North Yukon with in the overall fabric
of Yukon and Canada society;
Whereas; The Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation has participated fully as a member of the
Council of Yukon First Nations since it's inception in 1972;
Whereas; The Council of Yukon First Nations appears to be heading down a path,
politically and administratively, that is contrary and detrimental to the
good governance and vision of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation; and;
Whereas; The Vuntut Gwitchin Government is autonomous and self governing, with clear and
strong governance mandates acknowledged in our final and self-government
agreements, and enjoys both effective participation and widespread support of our
citizens in our governments on going administration, including both formal
intergovernmental relations and with less formal structures as the Council of
Yukon First Nations:
Therefore Be It Resolved;
The August 9, 2008 Vuntut Gwitchin General Assembly at Tloo' Kut mandate our Chief Joe
Linklater, in consultation with our Deputy Chief and Councilors, to exercise any decision
necessary in the best interests of our relationship with the Council of Yukon First
Nations, including the option of withdrawing any or all participation and membership in
the Council of Yukon First Nations;
That it remains important to the Vuntut Gwitchin Government to work collegially and
effectively with all Yukon and other First Nations directly to achieve common goals.
